In which I use Haiku to retell the events of the day

Another work day,
But my body aches a bit.
Ibuprofen? Three.

Coffee doesn't help.
I still feel really sleepy
I only took some...

Light bulb in my brain!
I check the meds container.
It's Advil PM.

Fighting sleep at work.
All I want is a long nap.
Eyelids feel heavy.

Consciously trying
To act normal, but think my
Speech might be slurring.

Is this how drunk peo-
Ple feel when they try to act
Sober? I guess yes.

Workout at the Y.
Still have to make some dinner
And get kids in bed.

Ev'ryone's asleep.
I think I'll take a hot soak
In my clean bathtub.

What's that trickling sound?
Just bathwater leaking out
From under the tub.

So much for my bath.
Instead I wipe the water.
It soaks four towels.

I probably should
Go to bed really early
And forget this day.

  1. That is a really bad day. How in the world did you still have enough withitness to write it?

  2. Interesting how you spread "peo-ple" over two lines to keep correct number of syllables. Not sure that's "legal" in Haiku-land, but after the day you've had, I believe you're entitled to some poetic license. Sleep well, my friend.

  3. Bless your heart! Hope tomorrow is a glass atleast half full day. :)

  4. HA!!!!! I love it! OMG PM?? that's like me taking a Benadryl during the day. ZONK!!!

  5. LOL! This reminds me of work. My coworker has been having bad back pain this week and our boss told her to take 4 maximum strength Motrin. There was a bit of a mix up - she actually meant for her to take them before bed, not during the middle of the day at work (though, knowing my lovable boss, it's quite possible that she only said this part in her head). My boss refused to let her drive herself home that day!
